Sequoia National Forest. Almost.

After the run on Saturday morning, we decided to go up to Sequoia National Forest to walk the Hundred Giants trail and take photos. I was so excited! We bought some sandwiches from Panera for lunch and packed snacks (apple chips FTW!) and filled up before going on our way.

Whoa doggies!
Whoa doggies!

While filling up, we saw these humongous dogs. They are huge. So huge I had to whip out my camera and take some sneaky pictures. (Darn if only my zoom was better... we had to pull up right near the van to take that 2nd one.) Does anyone know the breed? I can't believe the lady had three of them! I could probably ride on one with a saddle and all.

The highway we took was not a true highway. It was an unpopular, long, and very windy road. It was beautiful though---the green pastures, sheep, cattle, horses, isolated houses along the way.

The weather was perfect, we were all so happy when we neared the turn up to the trail.

ROAD CLOSED.
Huh? Closed? What? Why?!

We turned around to stop by the ranger station and ask some questions. The building was closed.
Just when we were about to give up, a lady came out from the building and reconfirmed we wouldn't make it because it had snowed on Sunday. There was a one-way hiking trail that was 3 miles long if we were interested... No thanks, we gave up.
The disappointment!

But it was too beautiful outside and there was a bench nearby so we decided to eat lunch there and try to stay positive.

All kinds of things went wrong on Saturday, this drive towards a closed road was only the beginning. But I'll spare you those details because it was still a good day.
It's fun exploring on weekends and getting out of the house together. We have many more busy and fun weekends ahead!
Plus, we ended that day with sushi, beer, and boba (with no calorie-counting or diet worries) which makes all bad things go away. :D
