Two Years & Counting...

two years

Today is my wedding anniversary! Tare and I are celebrating in Seattle. A very relaxing way to start this exciting week :)
A month ago, we had a photoshoot with Fern while we were visiting San Francisco. She's so cute and talented~ it was a fun session and we ended up with a lot of great photos. These are some of my favorites, the rest can be seen by visiting my flickr.

Creativity Boot Camp: Day 5

I would appreciate if you would also read my other post if you have the time.

Thought Bubble

Some people naturally draw others to them. Some people are very adept at expressing themselves and some stir emotions in others.

I see people who are receivers and those who are givers. The receivers have others wanting to be in their favor and others offer themselves and make themselves available. Givers don't have this natural draw and have to work at relationships much harder because no opportunities are offered to them.

Anyone have a guess as to which type I would be?

A: None of the above and a giver.
I have a subtle way of expressing myself. I don't laugh too loud, I don't react strongly, I'm not one to outwardly "ooh" and "ahh" at events or people. (I could feel overwhelming joy but unless I'm in my own house, I'll be bouncing up and down screaming only in my head.) But that doesn't mean I'm not happy or that I don't care.  I'm sure there might be people who think that of me but they've never taken the time to get to know me well enough to pick up on these things. I consider myself a giver because if I always just let things be and never said anything to someone I was interested in befriending, I would have zero friends. I don't ever have people trying to start up conversations with me and I'm the one trying to make myself available to meet up with people because otherwise we wouldn't see each other. I'm not bitter about it anymore because I'm sure each type has problems and perks of its own. It is what it is.

This is why I have a lot of trouble understanding how you're supposed to make real friends out of high school. Throughout elementary, middle, and high school, you're basically stuck with the same group of kids day in and day out. It could be seen as obligatory time where you can't help but get to know your peers and then you develop connections and build memories together in and outside of school. That time doesn't seem to be available in college (outside being in a fraternity/sorority/dorming), church, or if you're not in a 9-5 office setting.

I really have a hard time calling people my friend if I feel like we're not close. "Friend" is a very meaningful word and I don't want to just throw it all around and call everyone I know a friend. (Like the word "love". There's no more weight to it because it's misused so often.) I'm a pretty black and white person: it's either this or that to me and I make my decisions and act around that and it makes me somewhat stubborn. This means it's hard for me to lump "hung out a couple times" friend, "had classes together" friend, "somewhat close" friend, "close" friend, "best" friend all together as just friends. But it seems wrong to differentiate because "acquaintance" sounds cold when used.

So what I'm saying is I need time to build a friendship but it's not given to me. People just don't have the time anymore. It's understandable, but it's a shame. I feel like I'm someone who needs extra time so the other person realizes I'm not just a blah person and there is much to know about me and that I have a lot to offer as a friend. I just don't know how to promote myself as a potential friend me being the way that I am. I really suck at making conversation so if you say something about the weather I'll be like "yeah...{wishing I could bring something else up but I have no clue so end.}" I am slow to speak so I often miss chances to say something. I'm like an old person in a young person's body the way I view some things and I don't really know how to let go and party. I'm 22 but I've never been clubbing, I've never had any relationships other than my husband, I've never even gone on dates with anyone other than my husband, I don't really drink, I'm out of school but I'm not working, and I'm married. So I could give you a lot of advice about how to be a goody-two-shoes but it's definitely hard for me to relate to most 22-year-olds who are still living it up.

I'm not writing this in a sad or disappointed tone, I am actually very content with my life and the few friends I do have so that any new friends would totally be the cherry on top. It's just that I wonder about friendship and its place in my life and the type of person I am. I struggled a lot with the idea of friendship (what it means, does it matter, why can't I make any new ones, am I losing touch with old friends) and questioning what's wrong with myself during college, but I've given up this issue and all the conflicted emotions I had with it since then to God so I'm patiently waiting and watching.

What type of person do you think you are? What role does friendship play in your life right now? Has it changed since you were in high school?

Creativity Boot Camp: Day 1

I came upon Creativity Boot Camp by accident through another blogger's post. I've decided to follow the two weeks of creativity prompts and challenges to see what comes from it. Honestly, I don't know what kind of goals to set for myself right now but hopefully I'll have an idea in a couple of days. It's already on Day 9 but I'm starting today!

Summer Cuts

I don't cut my hair very often. I'm so used to having it long and straight that I usually go in for a trim once a year when I can't stand the split ends any longer. Usually it's a sudden impulse followed by impatience to get it cut as soon as I can, but this time I had to wait it out and wasn't quite sure what I wanted until I sat in the salon chair.

summer cuts

I think I cut almost 12" off. I thought it would be awkward but I'm really in love with this cut and will probably keep it short for a while! It's refreshing and I feel like I look a tad bit older. (just a tad.)

And it's not just me!

summer cuts

Aji finally got her summer cut too! I always fall in love with her again when she has shorter hair. I really think it's being able to see her eyes. When her bangs grow out and cover her eyes, she just turns into a sneaky dog.

And finally, my cute husband who was obsessed with the idea of having red hair for a few weeks. After his haircut yesterday we went out to pick out an at-home hair dyeing kit.

summer cuts

I have to say, I am pleasantly surprised with the results. I think this is just right, just enough red in the light but still dark and natural. (Good thing I didn't let him pick out the lighter one!)

summer cuts

I think they like each other's results.

So far today, we've:
-stopped by the new farmers' market to pick up some white nectarines and peaches (oh delish!)
-devoured a nutella strawberry crepe for breakfast
-browsed the library for new reads for me and Tare
-been watching downloaded Korea vs. Greece World Cup game (Korea is on fiyah!)

I can't wait to finish up Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 3 tonight and cook up some yaki udon with chicken for dinner! <3

So, funny story...

I go to Petco to pick up some Greenies for Aji. I pick out a huge tub which is on sale for $31.99 from $39.99. I also have a $5 off coupon.
I pay $29.88.
I walk to my car. That number seems wrong for some reason so I go back to talk about it. It is a different employee.
I say the sales price says $31.99 but the receipt says $34.99. Could you please fix that?
She says the price is not ringing up correctly so she inputs it manually, reapplies the coupon, and gives me back a refund in cash. The total is $22.07.
She hands me $22.07 in cash, says thank you have a good day. I walk out the door confused because it all happened so fast.
I get into my car and realize I just bought a 27 oz tub of Greenies for only $7.81. That is freaking amazing. What good luck on my part!

Well, funnier story...
I come home to write up this blog entry. I take a closer look at the receipts.
The transaction was in fact (somewhat) correct the first time around. For an odd reason the $8 from the store was applied after the tax and therefore I was confused.
This means not only did I luckily receive money back for this purchase but I had unintentionally scammed the lady into giving me a refund in the first place.

uh, my bad.

Now, I hope you don't view me as a scheming scam artist because it was really unintentional and I didn't make the lady do some really, really bad math. (HAHA) I didn't say anything because I was just confused by it all until I came home and really took a look at the receipts.
No, I don't plan on going back and giving the money back.
However, I was listening to KLOVE on the way home and heard about the Blood:water Mission and came home to donate towards that cause. :D See, it all flows in and out in a natural way.
Blood:water Mission aims to provide clean water by building wells for the people of Africa. If you're interested in donating, please visit KLOVE.com.

May theme: Family

As I've mentioned before, my family stayed for a week with me and Tare. I had been waiting for that week to come and when it came, it went by so quickly. I remember sharing that I would be missing last week's community group meeting because of family being in town and one person asked "So are you louder when you're around your sister?" The answer to that is yes (maybe too much) and Tare will attest to that.

Every day was full of laughter, fun, and food. As I predicted, I was never in the kitchen for all nine of the days my grandma was here. I was just called to the table during meal time and I sat down and ate. Like the old days. My sister went shopping in my closet for winter jackets I no longer wear. My dad talked to Aji like she was his long-lost youngest daughter. My grandfather took Aji on long, long walks who-knows-where and played with her every day. My mom bought me some kitchen items I needed but didn't know like the rice spoon that doesn't get rice stuck to it. My grandma made me like five types of kimchi and two huge containers of homemade shikhye which can't be reproduced by any sold in stores. Tare put up with all the driving and spur-of-the-moment decisions to go somewhere like he always does and was also spoiled by my family. I pretty much sat around and soaked all this in, oh except when I was trying to take sneaky pictures of everyone so I could hold onto the memories forever. We all also played godori (gostop) for a whole day minus breakfast, lunch, and dinner one day. Tare and I took Boradari to Disneyland for her birthday. We danced with cousins and aunties at my cousin's wedding. Eventually the week ended with a small birthday cake and song after church.

So I think I took like a million pictures of my family. I narrowed it down to something like 14 photos.

It was awesome and pretty much one of the best weeks ever. I miss them a lot.

Testcolor: THE personality color test

You are 46 % extrovert and 54 % introvert.

Independently of any order of importance :

You are able to have an in-depth thinking, you think before acting, and you know how to communicate your knowledge.

You are also strong-willed and active, your actions are determined by your own will, by the goals you settled for yourself, and by your need to act and to move forward.

You are attentive and cautious, you take into account the needs of others before setting up the defined goals.
Finally, you are creative, you know how to see beauty, you are intuitive and your inspiration comes from the inside, you are open and good communicator, you know how to attract people and engage them.

Ooh, quite accurate considering I only had to sort colors!
