No. 23

My husband is so sweet. I woke up to the most beautiful bouquet of roses in the morning. I've never received over a hundred roses before! He definitely knows how to make me feel special. ♥

Birthday flowers

To preserve them we divided them up to decorate three rooms: the kitchen, master bedroom, and guest bedroom.

Birthday flowers

I love that I'll have them around the house for me to look at and remember.

We went to church, had a very short last day with the babies, I took a nap, then it was time to meet the midwife.
I loved her but we'll have to wait on insurance matters to decide for sure so I'm praying we'll get the coverage. Please pray with us!
We had baked sushi rolls + udon for dinner then had a short&sweet candelit party and watched The Business of Being Born.
We didn't go anywhere or do anything special, but I sure felt like it was a special weekend.

fill in the blank Friday

{birthday candle necklace from anthropologie}

1.  The most adventurous thing I've ever done is bury a time capsule with friends on school property at night.

2.  If I were a pair of shoes I  would be comfortable black flats with a kitten heel. or does that mean it's not a flat anymore?

3.  My preferred mode of digital communication is email or texting. It's so much easier for me when I have time to think about how I want to reply.

4.  I feel happiest when Tare tells me I am beautiful at random times throughout the day every single day.

5.  A little dream I have for my life is to grow old with Tare and travel wherever and whenever we'd like.

6.  The one modern convenience I could NOT do without is currently the dishwasher. I'm usually a handwasher but I've let that go for a few months now.

7.  Music, movies, TV or books:  if I could only choose one to enjoy I would pick books (then music, TV, and movies).

I've been having very good luck this year. I had never won anything by chance for 21 years of my life but I must have slowly been collecting luck all of that time. (Or Tare's luck completely rubbed off on me, he is a very lucky duck but now it's me!) I've been winning giveaways but the prizes weren't ever too expensive or special... until now! This week I won VIP after party tickets to SMTOWN Live Concert 2010 in LA and then because the original winner gave them up I was also given VIP concert tickets as well! I am very excited because I wanted to go but we are in money saving mode so I passed but now we can go and it's extra special. What an awesome birthday gift :) The concert is next weekend so I have time to think about what I should wear. Any suggestions what to wear to an after party? I've never been and I don't fit into most of my pretty clothes anymore LOL. ohnoes.

I'm also excited for this weekend because I'm moving up in numbers (#23!). Tare said he will take me for sushi (although no raw stuff, sad face) after our meeting with a potential midwife on Sunday. Also, it's our last Sunday working with the babies which is a little sad but I didn't think I could commit to another year when I'll be so round. I will miss their sweet baby hugs. We'll be taking a break taking some classes instead.

What are your plans for the weekend?

Wednesday Painting

It's not perfect but I feel great joy at finishing this painting. As you can see it is not my own design, but I don't feel a great need to be original all the time. My first dabble in painting, I'm learning as I do!

Mini Instax Art Tutorial

This is a little art project I came up with to recycle my failed instax photos and start a new hobby of painting. Having a whole blank page to fill with a new medium still intimidates me so being able to fill just little boxes is a lot more fun for me as a beginner. Plus, I have a lot more failed instax photos lying around because of a project I started where my husband is the photographer. LOL.

This tutorial is a cute, simple project for anyone and a great way to "frame" tiny artwork!

10 things you may not know about me

1. I used to record myself singing when I was in MS-HS for fun. I was actually pretty popular on Soundclick and soompi. It used to be all I did and now I don't do it at all.

2. I used to be a Music Industry Studies major my freshman year of college. It was 99% male guitar or drum players in their own bands with greasy hair and I didn't like Music Business so I transferred.

3. "Tare" is not my husband's real life name. It's a nickname I gave him IRL when we started dating and I started using it on my blog just because. :)

4. I took piano lessons since I was three years old until I was a senior in high school.

5. I wore glasses from 2nd to 8th grade. I had braces sometime in there too.

6. I enjoy dancing but I don't dance. I just can't let go and do it in front of other people but I can do the wave man.

7. I crack my knuckles. And toes and wrists and ankles and neck.

8. I used to have uneven eyes. One had the fold and one didn't. One Christmas after some time using tape & glue, it magically appeared and stayed that way. I still think of it as God's gift to me that Christmas.

9. When I doodle, I avoid drawing six of anything. I always make it seven.

10. I always throw out food past its expiration date. If I feel weird about it, I throw it out too.

Creativity Boot Camp: Day 13

Finally I'm at the last prompt!

{Smile - I can't help but smile when I look down and know there's a life growing inside of me.}

Other things that make me smile...

Couple pictures
We finally put up our pictures on the walls. I love seeing them as I walk around my house. It's like a mini gallery with the lights in one hallway.

Happy things
I love my new panda duffle bag! & I drink banana milk every morning ♥ tastes like happy.

Oh, and I have to add the packages I just received! Three in one day, yeah!

My new *emera quilted camera bag (early birthday present from Tare), ASOS order, & free 1GB Creative mp3 player.

What makes you smile?

seeking water

The weekend was wonderful and passed by too quickly. I wish I could always have family around!
My mom is amazing, she cooked for all three meals of almost all three days and everything was delicious. I now have enough galbi for the rest of the year and will have my neng-myun craving fulfilled for the rest of the summer. I hope I can be as great a cook as her in 20+ years! ;)

Whenever my family comes to visit, we always head to Redondo Beach for the seafood. I mean every single time! Torrance is where I grew up when I was very young so there are a lot of memories and the food is proven to be good every time so why go anywhere else? Lunch on Saturday afternoon was awesome except for the torture I had to endure when the sashimi plate came around, but I had plenty of food to make up for it! Afterward we really had to take a walk around the pier (so full of crab <3).

After dropping my mom and sister off at LAX yesterday, Tare and I hung around LA to avoid traffic going north so we stopped by Freshia to pick up some more banana milk and watermelon popsicles. My mom called and told us to stop by a special Starbucks that her friend had told her about while we were hanging around. The reason why it's special?

Rancho Palos Verdes
{At Rancho Palos Verdes, taken with Blackberry}

It overlooks the ocean and we got there just in time to see the sun setting before it slipped away into the ocean fog. It was beautiful, I wish I had had my camera on me.

Now I'm really looking forward to November when we'll be driving out to Colorado!

{Gnome sane?}

Got a small and it's a bit big on me and makes me look chunky (or was it cuz I wore it over another shirt?) but hopefully I'll grow into it with a cute baby bump. :D
if you'd like one for yourself and/or wanna check out other cool designs, click here.

This weekend I'll be hanging out with my mom & sister, they're visiting until Monday just because they love me and Tare.
...OK ok I think it's for tokki but you know, we all reap the benefits. ♥

Have a great weekend!

2nd Annual Korean BBQ Cookoff 2010

1.  Birthdays are: a special day to celebrate but it's not your day as a queen/king. It's not about gifts or everything going your way or cakes with candles, it's about remembering your mom who went through a lot to give birth to you and giving thanks for your life.

2.  My favorite birthday memory was spending a week in New York last year. It was my first visit there and it was so much fun!

3.  A birthday tradition I (or my family) has is nothing! I don't have a tradition and my family didn't either. I didn't have parties every year (I rarely did at all), I didn't get surprise gifts, I didn't get a special cake, we didn't have a special place to go... it was just getting together for dinner and maybe having some fresh cream cake with fruit. We'll (Tare and I) have to make a tradition I guess... it was supposed to be traveling for my birthday every year but it won't be happening this year with tokki on board.

4.  If I had to choose one birthday meal to eat for the rest of my birthdays hence forward, I would choose sushi! Preferably halibut which is my favorite as sashimi.

5.  My birthday is on August 29th. It's a Sunday this year.

6.  If I could take a birthday trip I would go to S. Korea. I really want to go back and eat and visit the cities outside of Seoul.

7.  The best gift I've ever received for my birthday was a sketch of me done by Julia. I think it's the sweetest, most thoughtful present I've ever received and I know it took a lot of time and staring at my face to create. LOL

Lucky Shoes

After the cookoff, we went bowling. It was National Bowling Week and Saturday was free bowling for World Record Day, so of course, we had to go. And we had to break in our new bowling shoes:

Korean BBQ Cookoff 2010

2nd Annual Korean BBQ Cookoff 2010

We headed down to LA Saturday morning for the K-bbq cookoff! This was sort of a last minute decision because I had just found out about it the day before but I'm glad we decided to go! We're never in LA long enough for dinner so we always seem to miss out on trying different restaurants. This event gave us a chance to sample food from different restaurants that we normally don't have time to try.

2nd Annual Korean BBQ Cookoff 2010

We arrived a little early and there weren't too many people there. I'm sure we could have gotten there later and had no trouble parking but we wanted to get in and out of there. Unfortunately, we had to wait around for a lot of the food because the majority of the tents were not ready! Major Korean time if you gnome sane. I'm not sure what they were thinking but they hadn't even gotten their grills going yet when the event started!

2nd Annual Korean BBQ Cookoff 2010
{I wouldn't buy it for regular price (~$9) but I'll get it for the ticket price we paid ($5).}
Fortunately, the young ppl were on it and were handing out kalbi burgers left and right on the dot! Yum. Enough talking, onto the tasty goodness...

2nd Annual Korean BBQ Cookoff 2010
{Green tea kalbi from Hansong - Not sure how the green tea fits into this but it was very tender and delicious!}

2nd Annual Korean BBQ Cookoff 2010
{Trice (samgak kimbap) - boo! never again!}

2nd Annual Korean BBQ Cookoff 2010
2nd Annual Korean BBQ Cookoff 2010
{Pork ribs with pickled veggies & rice from HamJiPark - one of the best! I loved the pickled onions and cauliflower.}

2nd Annual Korean BBQ Cookoff 2010
{Seoul Sausage Company - Now this was AMAZING. Fresh concept of making kalbi into a sausage! It was huge, filling, tasty, unique and basically made me very happy. I'm sad they don't actually have a restaurant or food truck, they appear to be doing just catering for events right now.}

2nd Annual Korean BBQ Cookoff 2010
{Daechang (marinated beef large intestine) from Byul Gobchang - We waited around for this forever. I wanted some intestine and when I got it, it was love. <3 I think I ate too much though because I had a lasting garlic taste until the next day. LOL}

2nd Annual Korean BBQ Cookoff 2010
2nd Annual Korean BBQ Cookoff 2010
{Chocolate chip cookies with Thai Iced Tea ice cream from Coolhaus Ice Cream Truck - I want to buy gallons and gallons of Thai Iced Tea ice cream. I LOVE IT I WANT IT I NEED IT.}

2nd Annual Korean BBQ Cookoff 2010
{Chocolate and Marshmallow Cupcake from Sprinkles cupcake truck - YESSSSSSSSSSSSS.}

...And that's the end of my story. :D

(There was much more food than shown here, obviously, but we couldn't eat it all! We also didn't try other galbi because we wanted some variety. Wish I had another stomach to carry around and fill at these sorts of events!)
