Favorite Creativity/Art Quotes

One of the pages in my OneNote notebook is reserved for quotes that I find uplifting, inspiring, funny, or simply true. I come across them in books, blogs, articles, sermons, and even commercials.

Filmmaker, Jim Jarmusch:
“Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery – celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from – it’s where you take them to.”

Jane Brocket:
"But the joy of knitting or stitching or baking or homemaking lies in the fact that there are no rules, there are no levels of perfection that we need to attain. The whole point about the gentle arts is that they are noncompetitive, soothing and utterly pleasurable... [i]gnore all calls for perfection and focus instead on what you can achieve, and the pleasures of the gentle arts will be yours for the taking."

"Why capture? Create."

Paul Auster:
"The real aim of art is not to create beautiful objects: it’s a method of reflection, a means of understanding the universe and finding one’s place in it."

Please do share any favorite quotes on art or creativity.

Etsy Maternity Collection

2. JellybeanApparel's Sunglasses Maternity tee
3. Xenotee's Animal Group Nouns Maternity tee
4. JemmaJewel's Favorite V-Neck Top
5. Discobelly's Hello Baby (boy) Maternity tee
6. Thaitee's Wide Leg Yoga Pants
7. Painting Elephant's Heart Me Handpainted Dark Blue Skirt
8. Rschone's Rosalyn Maternity Dress
9. MuthaCrafter's I'm So Crafty I Make People Maternity tee

Over the past few days it seems my belly has really popped out and I think I need to start looking at some actual maternity clothes. I've gathered my favorites from etsy here.

As you can see from my selections, I'm not really into those obvious maternity t-shirts with funny sayings but I think the sunglasses are cute and the last t-shirt was just funny to me.
no.6 looks amazingly comfortable and I love how it looks a little flirty with the cream "edging".
I adore no.7 although it's not described as a maternity skirt, I feel like I'd be able to squeeze my bump in there and still look so cute.
no.8 would be perfect for my husband's annual company holiday party coming up in a few months.

Time to go maternity shopping!

The Beach

After lunch with Tare's grandma in LA yesterday, we decided to head to Malibu since we've never been. We stopped at Westward Beach to sit on a blanket and soak in some sun. It was beautiful with cool breezes.

We stopped by a small chocolate and gelato place called Tifa before we headed home. I got honey & lavender gelato and Tare got something with a fancy Italian name that means vanilla with dark chocolate swirls. Both were delicious and the wafer(?) was amazing! I don't know how they get all those layers to be so delicate. We also picked up some goodies like toffee, drinking chocolate, and gummy pandas.

I want to share some more photos taken with the iPod Touch 4G. Some Hipstamatic fun:

Pretty decent for a less than 1mp camera right? Although I wouldn't look at them any bigger than 300x400.

Korean BBQ Chicken

{Chicken, honey roasted baby potatoes, and cornbread muffins}

Spicy, sweet, and so delicious!

Korean BBQ Chicken Drumsticks (from Bebe Rose's Cooking Secrets)

5 drumsticks
salt, pepper, lemon juice
2 Tbsp ketchup
2 Tbsp red pepper paste
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1 Tbsp light corn syrup
1 Tbsp sugar
1 Tbsp cooking wine
1/2 Tbsp ground red pepper
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp minced garlic
Pinch of ground black pepper

1. Preheat the oven (or grill) to 450 degrees.
2. Prepare the drumsticks by rinsing in water and patting dry with paper towel. Make a few cuts in the drumsticks and prepare for grilling or baking with enough salt and pepper and lemon juice.
3. Grill or bake the drumsticks for 30-35 minutes or until cooked through (reaching internal temp of 180 degrees).
4. Mix the sauce ingredients together. Baste the drumsticks with the sauce and bake for another 5 minutes. Repeat.

Enjoy with a side of rice or the usual BBQ sides!

New Shoes

I love PacSun because I can find everything I want there. It's amazing.
I found two new pairs of shoes while browsing the Santa Monica store this past weekend!

I've been on the lookout for a comfortable pair of sneakers for a long time now and the toms I got didn't work out. I'm too afraid of the pain of breaking them in so they're still nice and unused (should get on wearing them out). Vans usually don't work out for me but this style has the most comfortable fabric that stretches to fit my feet. I also love the hightop, so cute!

I've also been looking out for a pair of brown leather boots for fall/winter since all of my boots are suede. After a fail with Target, I found these lovelies! I don't even know what brand they are but they fit and I love them. Oh, and they were definitely the right price. :)

I'm just hoping my feet don't grow... I hear that happens when you're pregnant.

I adore these new shoes and I'm so happy with my purchases. Have you made any recent purchases that make you smile?

Probably should have worn something more colorful but I love this shirt. In about a month we get to do an ultrasound, I'm excited to find out whether my prediction is right.

iPod Touch 4G for ME

{credit: Apple Store}

I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my 4G iPod Touch. I was forced to buy it by Tare after an embarrassing moment which I cannot share because it makes me cringe. Let's just say I now have way too much money to spend on apps. *cringe*

As I wait, I've been searching for apps! Here are the top 7 apps that I look forward to using:

no.1 Hipstamatic - I've heard about this app everywhere I look, looks fun to take pictures with.

no. 2 Home Routines - I need this to remember when to wash the sheets and do house cleaning. It'll be good to keep me on track for what I need to get done each day.

no. 3 How to Cook Everything - Better than getting the book. :D

no. 4 Karaoke Star - Awesome, it's like a portable NRB! I'm going to record Tare and myself rocking out in the car.

no. 5 Human Japanese - I've always been interested in learning Japanese but I never get past hiragana. Another attempt at independent learning...

no. 6 BabyBump - It'll be great to have a kick and contraction counter and have all pregnancy-related details in one place.

no. 7 Baby Connect - Looking ahead, this app will be really helpful in keeping track of nursing/sleeping/diaper times.

Does anyone have favorite apps they'd like to share with me?

This Halloween I want to be...

A cupcake!

Or an owl!

How adorable are these costumes from Pottery Barn Kids?! I had to get Tare to snap photos of these for me while we were browsing the store. :D

Actually, we don't really celebrate Halloween anymore. As much as I'd love to be a sexy cupcake or naughty owl, I think I've grown out of it.
I might just have to buy these costumes secretly ahead of time for my future daughter... they also had a very cute root beer bottle costume that I might get for my future son too. These costumes are so much more original than the run of the mill witch and superhero costumes.

Labor Day Weekend

We started out the weekend driving down to the LA Farmer's Market. We haven't been there for a year so it was nice to go back and get some yummy food for lunch (Brazilian BBQ & Greek). We also spent some time shopping at the Grove to pass time before heading over to the concert.

The concert was about 4 hours long and full of performances by SMTOWN artists. Honestly, it was mostly a Super Junior and SHINee concert with performances in between by other artists. They came out so many times (even featuring in other artists' performances) and every single time the fans went CRAZY. It was so loud! Expected at a concert of course but four hours of bass pounding through my body and having to stand up for a lot of the concert gave me such a headache. I should probably mention that I caught a cold the day before the concert and my sore throat prevented me from singing along and screaming along with everyone else so I was tired and didn't really get into it. :(

We headed to the after party since we had tickets even though I was so tired. It was nice to have the VIP room where it was a little quieter with some appetizers but I don't really get the point of an after party if it's just older people standing around talking and younger people waiting around with their cameras near the red carpet.

This is a picture of a Super Junior member walking off the stage. The artists stopped at the red carpet for pictures then came on stage and walked off waving towards their private room. We only stuck around to see Super Junior, Girls' Generation, and SHINee. Actually, we were stuck for about 40 minutes because we couldn't find another exit to leave LOL. We finally left through the balcony after a little more than an hour... actually it was more like escape.

Then we drove to our hotel and conked out at 1am. I thought I was going to keel over... this is why I can't go out at night haha. But I appreciate the experience, thanks to allkpop.

The next morning was spent inhaling dimsum and blowing my nose raw. :)
How did you spend your three-day weekend? I hope everyone's weekend was fun (& healthy)!

There are more pictures of the concert at my flickr. All were taken with my p&s so quality isn't great.

The size of the heart is the approximate length of the baby, measured from side to side.

I hope to document the progress of my pregnancy in terms of weekly baby bump size.
I haven't truly "popped" yet, but I'm looking forward to when it's not just my little secret. :)

The Top Gear episode with the smallest production car is awesome. It's from a year or two ago but it was great!

I'm very excited about this weekend! We decided to stay overnight in LA so we won't have to drive back so tired late at night.

I got a lot of happy mail today... tickets & a birthday card & a good response from the insurance company, we're waiting on another.

I really want the new iPod Touch. Waiting to see if they'll add on 3G or not...

I bought an Ergo baby carrier this morning and I love it; that's baby purchase #2. Also, I've been adding to my baby wishlist every day!

I miss hugs and kisses from my husband. He won't come near me for the past few days because he's been sick. :( Almost better though.

I will actually have something to share either tomorrow or Saturday.
