January Challenge: Complete!

The Challenge:
Working out every day of January following Jillian's 30 Day Shred DVD

How it played out:
1/04-1/14 Level 1
1/15-1/21 Level 2
1/22-1/29 Level 3
1/30-1/31 Level 2 & 1

The Results:
Weight lost: 0.1 lbs (Went up 2 lbs but came back down to original at the end)
Inches lost: [Bust 3.25"] [Waist 1.25"] [Hip 0"] [Thigh 1"]
Other changes/Reflection:
I lost a lot of inches around my bust, but no worries, it was not from the front but from the back. :D I lost of a lot of the fat I had back there and my sides that used to create those pesky rolls when wearing a bra. I now have hope that I will be able to get down to my HS size for waist if I keep going (which I will, just 0.5" away)! How exciting. I can now do man pushups, which I could never do before. I eat a lot more often but less at a time, so I know my metabolism was boosted by exercising every day. I've also proved to myself that I can push past the pain/laziness and exercise every single day and it feels really really good. I now take showers every day (as opposed to every other day) so I guess I'm cleaner in a way. Most importantly, I know I can do what I set my mind to and I feel pretty darn strong in body and mind. *one more thing! --My eczema is pretty much gone! It hasn't been back since I've started exercising so hopefully it'll stay away.

I also challenged myself to take pictures according to a theme every month, and January's was food. I ended up cooking a lot (which Tare enjoyed) and it was a lot of new recipes. They were all great (minus one) and I will probably make them again. As I mentioned before, this has made me a lot faster in the kitchen in terms of using the knife and getting ingredients prepared. Oh, and I really enjoy taking pictures of food so it was good practice in getting up close and trying to capture all the textures and colors. I don't have much to play with set-wise, but I hope to be able to do that better really really soon. ;)

By the way, we just put a deposit down on a house today. We are SO excited and feel really jittery and flutterbies in our stomach. Please pray for us that we'll trust God to provide and guide us as we transition into the next step of our lives. Thanks!

Photo Walk R

It has been rainy and gloomy since Saturday. Aji and I were finally able to go out for a long, overdue walk around the neighborhood. She was so excited about sniffing everything and I was excited about the weather being so perfect I could be out in short sleeves.

This week I looked for color.

I need to find somewhere else to do my photo walks, I don't have much variety. Maybe a nearby park somewhere..

I spent my Wednesday carving stamps. It was a project for Style School and I'm so into it. It's so fun to carve out the rubber; something like popping packaging bubble wrap, just satisfying to do. It almost didn't happen though because my dog had decided the wood handle of my carving tool would be delicious and was 60% through the bottom where you put in the metal part and 30% through the top when I found her with it. She almost went to doggie heaven that night. So I had to tape off the top and bottom of the handle so I wouldn't get splinters. One of the metal parts fit into the handle and the other had to be taped to some wooden chopsticks. Here's what I've made so far!

This flower is my favorite!

I found these stamps at Michaels and they were way too cute to pass up (Need to look in the kids' section more often). It will be my last purchase for a long time. hehe...

Busy Tuesday

So far I have: done the dishes, made bread, made rice, and...

I kept my word! I have completed (finally) my cushion covers. :D I love the fabrics I chose to do this project: hello's in many languages & multi-color rain drops.
I did a dumdum move while measuring but it worked itself out in the end, it always does. After that it was smooth sailing~

& I added another goodie to the wall in our bedroom. Go me! (I just put the heart that was in the living room into the frame and hung it up. Yeah~)

I feel very accomplished. I must now work out and get shredded. *hulk roar*

Lazy Monday

The gray weather makes me feel really tired. I need sunlight! Aji needs sunlight too; it's too wet to go outside these days so she just lies on our warm bed for most of the day. It's her favorite spot.

I had my first blood orange tonight. It was quite juicy and orangey. So very pretty.

I hope I'm more productive tomorrow, I want to finish those cushions!

Sunday Crepes

Crepes

Is there a way to make a nutella crepe look good in a picture? I mean it tastes heavenly but even in reality, it looks kinda like a poop smear. So I spared you the thought by not taking the picture.

What I really didn't want to ever happen happened today. I was asked to teach our three year old class for Sunday School this week since the actual teacher wasn't going to make it. So I was prepared to teach the little lesson and watch over them. Well, the actual teacher actually made it today and said she would just be the helper, like I (& Tare) usually am. It was awkward for me because it's like I'm "performing" in front of the teacher that does it really well. It was odd to ask her to do stuff and have her redirect the childrens' questions to me because "Miss Hana is the teacher today, you need to ask her!" I guess it was her trying to be nice and make it comfortable (?) but it was really strange for me. I hope it doesn't happen again next week when I have to teach. But it was a good day because we all made crowns & were forgiving queens and kings. :D We even took a huge group picture, so cute! (And it's truly amazing the difference it makes when the difficult kids don't show up! They were angels today.)

I look forward to the new week! Yes, come on Monday!

Pretty Finds Along the Hunt

Yesterday (and today for lunch) we had beef BBQ and mac&cheese.

Dinner

It was my first time using both recipes and they turned out really well.

Beef BBQ
The beef was so tender and the BBQ sauce it cooked in was so simple to make and DELICIOUS! It's a really simple recipe where you dump things into the dutch oven or slow cooker and just leave it for four hours. I also like how I was able to make the sauce to my taste because I prefer sweet to tangy when it comes to BBQ sauce.

Beef BBQ

The macaroni and cheese was yummy too and had a good crust to it. I think I would have preferred it before baking though because it's much creamier.
Mac & CheeseMac & Cheese

I really enjoy cooking and being able to make what I used to only eat at restaurants. Recipes don't always come out well but I've noticed they are easier to follow now that I'm starting to learn how certain foods cook and how my oven seems to work on my own through experience. I'm faster at getting everything prepared and my knife skills are improving daily. :D I always thought my grandma and mom were super cooks (and they still are when they cook for me!) but I think I have some hope in getting as good as them if I keep practicing. It's fun and I love the time I spend in preparation for Tare's return home.
I still don't have my "special" dishes yet though... I keep going through recipes only once or twice and moving onto the next. I guess it's because I don't like eating the same thing over and over again. I must prepare for my family's coming later this year though! I want to make as many goodies as I can for them while they're here. Yes, you should look forward to it.

I love early weekends when Tare is home! The rain and snow in CA is shutting down the highways and stuff so we can't go down south as we were planning to but I guess we'll find something to do at home. Maybe some more wall art?

Or playing with Aji so she loses weight?

She looks kinda like a sausage. I love those dainty legs and huge eyes though. and maybe the spotted nose too. and gorgeous tail. and floppy ears. But not her butt-scooting, no not that.

Happy weekend!

Steps Toward a Home

Style School Binder

Yesterday, Tare and I had a meeting with a mortgage broker. He was very nice and generous in his leading us through the somewhat scary (not really but I was nervous for some reason) and exciting process of getting approved for a loan and buying a house. So in the 25 minutes we were there, we found out we are approved for a certain price of house and it felt so wonderful. As you can see in the picture above, a house, no a home, of our own is what I really wanted this year. This apartment thing doesn't get us anywhere and it's just money out the door; I can't wait until that same money goes toward owning a house, or equity. I am so grateful to God for answering our prayers because we were unsure about how this would work out, if we should even consider buying a house this year, etc. but He is so good in providing for us. Somehow I feel like I'm on warp speed from college-->grad school-->married-->moving-->and soon to own house. I mean 22 years of age and I'm here doing this right now! What can I say, did I get a good catch or what? (as the broker guy said.)

I'm excited to start house hunting. I have a few things I'd like in the house and the type of neighborhood I want but I haven't dreamed about wanting this for that long of a time. That means I don't have all these wishlist items that I absolutely must have and have a high standard for my first home; what do you call that? homezilla? like bridezilla? I wasn't that either. For the price range of house we want, we get a "lot of house" here in Bako and I'm glad. I want my family over and have the room for that (and friends if you wanna stop by :D). I just can't wait to get started because after this... it will only get better.

I'm praying we'll find the house we want here by April 30th. That's the cutoff date for the first homebuyers tax credit=lots of money back to us. Again, I don't really have anyone to ask questions about the process or anything else I'm curious about on a more personal level which is a bummer... but that's life the same way it's always been for me. I forge ahead alone (with Tare) and maybe I'll help someone else later on with my experience.

I'm excited!! *freak out*

Creative Jumpstart

In the past 24 hours, I've completed 3 projects from Style School. It's a lot of fun to be able to take the posted project instructions & personalize with my own style. And I feel uber creative & productive cranking these out.

Love Theme Wall Art
Love theme Photo Wall Art
I love the extra heart in the reflection. Our mini photoshoot today with my chocolate fuji. I love the heart that I made for this! It looks so puffy & pretty so I left it on my wall.
This frame is brightening up a corner of our bedroom! Love the pink in our room. :D I will definitely make more...

Fabric pom-pom necklace

I made it so it would be pretty wearable but I'm not sure when I will try it. I think it's cute & fun though.

Faux Vintage Brooch Wreath

I crocheted the flowers, so puffy <3. & I glued on some jewels for the centers. I'm glad I got to use the vintage ribbon & leftover fabric.

Now I need to do some sewing but I'll wait until Monday.

I'm definitely enjoying my Saturday! I totally beat Tare in Settlers so I didn't have to do dishes, yay! I beat him all the time though, so I guess it's not too surprising. :D ahaha.
I only suspected, but Aji has indeed been sneaking around my light tent. She was napping in it while we were distracted by the game! I couldn't be upset at her though because this is one of those cute things she does that I can't help but laugh about.

Happy weekend!
