tokki watch: twenty-three weeks

Twenty-three Weeks

My little tough guy,

This week we had a lot of fun at the Tiny Tykes class. You jumped on the trampoline, rode a log scooter, swung on rings and a swing, and hip-hip-hoorayed for the first time! You even sat on your own without falling over for the first time too! (Although it hasn't happened again at home...) I love seeing your bright eyes looking here and there when we go to new places, trying to take it all in--I can tell you're going to be a curious boy when you're older. We'll be going twice a week now, I hope you enjoy it just as much as the first time.

You've been making Mommy feel real special these days by looking for me even when you're in Daddy's arms. Daddy is a little jealous but I told him you would probably grow out of it soon... I secretly hope you never will though. ;)

Other little things to note from this week... you blow raspberries, you stay awake in the car for short rides now and will cry without stopping unless Mommy sings for you (the ABC song is magical), you use your rolling skills to reach things you want, and you look absolutely adorable with a bow in your hair. (I tried not to be that mom who dresses up her son but I couldn't help it! It stops with the bow though, I promise!)

Mommy & Me Week

It's turning out to be a busy week. So far,
-Monday: MyGym class & chiropractor day
-Tuesday: WarmLine meeting & Basque dinner with community group

 from here
I love the mygym class which is for Luke and me to play in a structured class with other mommies and babies. He had a lot of fun staring at other babies and doing new things like "jumping" on the trampoline and swinging. We've signed up for the class and will be going twice a week and our next class is Friday!

I'm not sure how I feel about the WarmLine group... There were only two other moms there this time with the group leader and while it was nice to sit and talk a while, it was so hard to leave! The time is from 11:30 to 1:30 and one could leave or join at any time but I'm not really outspoken enough to announce my leaving in the middle of any conversation going on so I stood awkwardly all packed up to go for like 30 more minutes after it was "over". I was waiting for a pause but it almost never came. Sigh. But not sure if that group is for me besides that...

Basque food on the other hand was excellent! Where I live is known for Basque food and it was our first time trying it since we've moved here. We went with our community group and it was awesome. The place we went is called Noriega's and it's family style with so much tasty food! Every night has a set menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner and last night's dinner was
Soup, Salad, Beans, Bread, Salsa, Pickled Tongue, Cottage Cheese, Pasta or Rice, French Fries, Vegetable, Bleu Cheese and Ice Cream.
Also includes House Wine or optional beverage of Coffee, Tea, or Milk.

Tuesday: Chicken Cacciatore & Steak
from here
Cannot wait to go again!

Today and tomorrow are stay at home days (yay, no makeup!) and Friday we'll be heading out to another Mommy & Me group and MyGym class. tokki is making it so much easier by being such a happy, smiley boy when we go out. Lucky me! :)

tokki watch: twenty-two weeks

Twenty-two weeks
My little reader

We have been reading up a storm this week! tokki is still more into putting the book in his mouth than listening and looking but I'm just glad he is getting familiar with books. Both his dad and I loved reading when we were younger (& still do now) and we hope he loves it too. We're slowly building a bilingual library for him.

There has also been more babywearing this week. He falls asleep so well when I'm wearing him and we both enjoy the closeness. It's definitely making nap time a lot easier!

Isaiah 43: 18, 19 -
"Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland."

tokki watch: twenty-one weeks

Twenty-one Weeks

Happy 5 months tokki! You are almost half a year old, oh my!

You make me laugh with your silliness every day. Like...
♥ randomly, out of nowhere cracking up while looking at Aji
♥ staring at Mommy with big round curious eyes while I eat breakfast toast, amazed and focused on every bite
♥ zoning out like Daddy and staring off into space (the similarities crack me up!)
♥ touching my face delicately like you're saying "Mommy is pretty" which makes me "aww" until I realize you're trying to eat my face. That's still so sweet too because I love you. :)

Reflection

The Internet is a great source of inspiration for me. It's full of creativity, talented people, beautiful things. Most of the time I walk away from it feeling refreshed, encouraged, excited about trying something new, validated. But sometimes it becomes something more complicated as others' lives are compared against my own, envy sets in, doubts about what I'm doing, I feel drained.

It means I have to pull away and become more grounded in my life. I have to stop reading some people's blogs, stop following them on twitter, block their feed from facebook, and take some time to reflect on what's making me feel so small. I need to make changes again to be inspired by my own life and not just others'. I need to reconnect with God and be present and content with what I've been given. I've been grateful but not completely content.

Hopefully I will be more creative and inspired by me soon. I will probably have more to share then besides weekly updates of my little one.

tokki watch: nineteen weeks

Nineteen Weeks

One of the most amazing things is to watch a little person grow and learn new things. Every day is different with my little baby: one day he is frustrated not being able to grasp the giraffe on his mobile, the next day he has mastered pulling it into his mouth. Mommy's shoulders and back are a bit sore from holding a baby who is already fitting into 12 month old clothes. Where is all this extra weight going? Baby doesn't have a belly, it's all double chins and thighs! Mommy also has to watch out for baby's flying punches, kicks, and grabbing because this baby is strong. Drool (tokki's) is an everyday accessory for both Mommy and baby and it's smart to keep fingers out of reach or they will be gnawed on. Hard.

Current favorites:
Toy- duck
Song-  사과 같은 내 얼굴 (My face is like an apple, a Korean children's song)
Funny- Daddy's face
Chew thing- baby's fingers
New skill- holding foot while on the potty
